Antigone – Promiscuity

One of those records that grabs you first listen. If you recognize the vocalist, It’s cause she sang on Stephen Alkins’ “the bass has got me movin” which is probably one of the best Australian house records ever made.
She’s Aussie and has just returned back from a stint in the UK where she had an underground hit with the moloko-ish disco track “More man than man”.
There’s an album on the way in Australia shortly and apparently there are gigs in the near future (that have been rumored to include serenading blow-up dolls) so watch her myspace. Here’s the remix….

Basement Jaxx – Raindrops

Looking forward to hearing the new Jaxx album, ‘Scars’, which reportedly features guest vocals from Grace Jones, Cyndi Lauper, Sam Sparro, Yoko Ono, Yo Majesty! & Santogold…nice!
This is the impressive first single. It’s complete with all the signature freaky monkey, screaming, glitchy, jungle  Basement Jaxx sounds.

Agnes – Release Me

Following in the footsteps of September comes Swedish Idol winner Agnes. Ugly name…pretty face…camp and catchy as! This is going to be BIG in the clubs over the coming months so prepare. There’s obvious comparisons to Leona sure…but who’s complaining?
Here’s the Cahill Club Mix but the original doesn’t need much work…

Kid Cudi, Kanye West, Common & Lady Gaga – Poke Her Face

Nice to see GaGa can laugh at herself whilst she’s getting poked in the face by Kanye. Cheeky summer hit…if only it were summer. I’m still out on whether I think GaGa is refreshing or just lame but this is cute.

Tommy Sparks – She’s Got Me Dancing

Good to see Sweden isn’t just pumping out pretty ex-idol Popstars these days. If you’re into Frankmusic or Alphabeat you’re going to dig this edgy pop record. The barbarella lazer woman in the video appears in my dreams now.

Lissat & Voltaxx – Release Yourself

neon-logo-new2

Of the couple of remakes of AVH’s classic ‘You Don’t Know Me’ that have surfaced over the last couple of months, this one takes the cake…not sure where to..but the cake’s gone. This is coming out on Neon Records shortly including the full vocal version…details of which you can find at www.neonrecords.com.au from next week.

Robyn – Be Mine (Acoustic)

To end up here’s one that not exactly new but pretty mind blowing nonetheless and definitely worth a mention.
Robyn recorded this tear-jerker version of ‘be mine’ for the Cherrytree House Sessions along with acoustic versions of ‘With Every Heartbeat’ & ‘Bum Like You’..the girl can sing!! And her step haircut brings back fond school memories.

The Dust Off Classic of the Week

Betty Boo – Doin’ The Do

This is such a classic. One of the first pieces of vinyl I had to own and still sounds nice & chunky today. She had a kinda unsuccessful comeback attempt last year guest vocaling on another dance record and has since disappeared. In her own words “where are you baby?”
